Infection Prevention and Control Practices for Construction and Maintenance in Health Care Facilities

  • This course has been designed to familiarize participants with infection risks to patients and care workers associated with construction and maintenance operations in health care facilities, and to help participants develop an understanding of current best practices for prevention of infection by airborne and waterborne microbes in association with construction and maintenance activities. Course topics include: discussion on two common airborne and waterborne disease causing agents in the health care environment: Aspergillus and Legionella; the evolution of best practice standards for nosocomial infection prevention and control; a detailed examination of the latest version of CSA Z317; and a review of actual cases involving outbreaks in health care facilities.
